Middle Class Fantasies was a German punk band from Frankfurt am Main that existed from 1979 to 1982. For a short time in 1982 it operated under the band name Killerpralinen .

Band history

Middle class fantasies

Christoph Schnee first came into contact with the punk phenomenon while on vacation in the Netherlands . Back in Germany he listened to Sex Pistols and decided to start a band with his brother Markus. They took Sören into the group as a guitarist and a little later Topsy GI as a drummer. The band name was borrowed from the underground comic of the same name by Jerry Lane . At first they started to use English texts, but after a short time they switched to German texts. They played live for the first time in the Gallustheater and then regularly in the JUZ Bockenheim , among others with the then still unknown Böhse Onkelz . The first pieces of his own were created, including heroes and the provocative party in the gas chamber , which took up slogans from the older generation against punks and leftists such as “you would have been gassed back then”. The band sent a demo recording to Karl-Ulrich Walterbach from Aggressive Rockproduktionen , who also brought the band to Berlin, where they performed in the legendary punk club SO36 together with Daily Terror . For a while the band even lived in Berlin.

Walterbach published the pieces Heroes and Audience on his first soundtrack to Downfall - Sampler , later Helden together with the Police SA-SS from Slime was the indexing basis for the sampler. The second release of Aggressive Rock Productions was the three-song Tradition EP , produced by Harris Johns . The debut was well received in the punk scene nationally and internationally.

Then the band went on the "Tour to Downfall" and performed with Aheads , Beton Combo and Slime. Middle class fantasies got bigger and bigger, but now they felt less comfortable in the divided punk scene.

In order to document the cut, it was decided to change the name to killer chocolates. Musically, elements from the avant-garde were adopted . They moved away from the fast and hard punk style, towards post-punk in the style of Killing Joke and UK Decay . In 1982 a self-titled EP about aggressive rock productions was released, which flopped, but is now a sought-after rarity. Tensions within the band spread. Killer chocolates played again in front of an almost empty hall in Bochum and then dissolved.

After the dissolution

After Markus Schnee and Topsy GI, Christoph Schnee has also passed away. Over the years and not least because of their participation in the first soundtrack for Untergang Sampler, the band has become a cult group on the German punk scene. Their recordings were distributed via bootlegs . In addition, some songs appeared again and again on samplers, such as Party in the Gaskammer on the anti-Nazi compilation Nazis out published by Zap Fanzine and in Weird Systems Punk Rock BRD box. As inquiries increased, Christoph Schnee recorded five older, but never published songs from the killer chocolate era together with Michael “Elf” Mayer and Stephan Mahler from Slime and a member of Rubberslime . In 2007 Weird System released the complete discography of Middle Class Fantasies under the title F§% k yourself .
