Ahmed Mater

Ahmed Mater (born July 25, 1979 in Tabuk , Saudi Arabia ) is a Saudi Arabian doctor and artist .

Life

Mater studied medicine at King Khaled University in Abha in southwest Saudi Arabia. After graduating as a surgeon , he settled there and in Jedda as an artist in the 1990s .

In addition to painting, Mater's forms of expression are photography, calligraphy, installations, performance and video works. He lives with his wife in Dschedda on the Red Sea , where the couple have their studio and run an exhibition salon.

Since the middle of the last decade, Mater has become known nationally and internationally through exhibitions and installations as well as through its publications. In 2003 he co-founded the Edge of Arabia initiative , which campaigns for better awareness of Arab art and culture, especially from Saudi Arabia.
