Ahmed Naseer

Ahmed Naseer (born October 31, 1975 in the Maldives ) is a Maldivian economist and former governor of the Maldivian Monetary Authority from August 2017 to July 2019.

Naseer grew up in Malé , the capital of the Maldives, and attended Iskandar School and Majeediyya School. After graduating from GCE O, he entered the Science Education Center for his higher secondary education. He received his bachelor's degree in economics from Curtin University , Perth , Australia . He also earned a degree in education from Curtin. In 2007, Naseer was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship and completed his MA in Economic Policy from Williams College , Massachusetts , United States .

After three years in the education sector, he joined the Ministry of Finance and Treasury as Deputy Director. After completing his master's degree, he joined the Maldivian Monetary Authority (MMA), the country's central bank. In April 2011 he was appointed to the government as Minister of State for Finance.

Naseer resigned from his government office in late December 2011.

Naseer has been active in the tourism sector for five years and is one of the founders of the Guest House Association of Maldives. Naseer is also considered a pioneer of local island tourism in the Maldives. With the opening of his WhiteShell Beach Inn guest house on Maafushi Island , Naseer opened the first guest house on a local island.
