Ahnengau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ahnengau (also Ahnengau des Führer's ) was a name for the federal state of Lower Austria during the Nazi era , which has been called " Niederdonau " since the annexation of Austria to the German Empire . The reason for this was that Adolf Hitler's parents Alois Hitler originally came from Döllersheim (today Pölla ) and Klara Hitler from Spital in the Waldviertel . National Socialists planted Hitler oaks , and the Großpoppen community was the first in Austria to give Adolf Hitler honorary citizenship .

However, the residents of Döllersheim and several other settlements were driven from their homeland between 1938 and 1941, as the German Wehrmacht set up a large military training area in the area (the Allentsteig military training area, which is still in existence today ).
