Spital bei Weitra is a cadastral community of Weitra in the Waldviertel in Lower Austria with around 220 inhabitants.

history

Spital is one of the oldest places in the Waldviertel, which, according to tradition, was originally called "Schön Blumau". The hospital was probably founded in the middle of the 12th century and donated to the Order of St. John in Prague by Hadmar II von Kuenring around 1200 . After the Coming Mailberg had been incorporated, a hostel (hospital) for pilgrims was built at the fork of the Böheim and Polansteig, which is how the place got its name.

location

The place is about 4 km southeast of Weitra, away from Greiner Straße 119 , which leads past to the east, and is surrounded by forests and meadows. St. Wolfgang is three kilometers to the west and Mistelbach is 1.5 km to the southeast .
