Aoife
Aoife , also Aife [ ˈiːfʲə ], is a legendary figure in the Celtic mythology of Ireland , which is probably due to a Celtic deity .
mythology
In one tradition, Aoife is a daughter of Manannan , sister of Aobh and wife of Lir . Another story ( Tochmarc Emire , “The Court for Emer ”) names her a warrior queen in Alba (Scotland), with whom Cú Chulainn has to compete in a duel. After defeating her, he fathered a son named Connla with her . In the saga Aided Oenfir Aífe ("The death of Aifes only son") it is reported how Cú Chulainn has to kill Connla with the Gae Bolga because of his geis .
Today Aoife is a common female given name in Ireland.
