The Aigle (German: "Adler") was a sailing warship of the French Navy .

history

The Aigle was completed in 1800 in the Rochefort shipyard .

In 1805 she sailed with the Algésiras to the West Indies to meet the French fleet under the command of Vice Admiral Pierre de Villeneuve .

On October 21, 1805, she took part in the Battle of Trafalgar and was captured by the British . During the battle 70 of the 755 men of the crew were killed and 100 others were wounded; the captain of the ship was also killed.

The following day the French team managed to regain control of the ship, which had been taken as a prize by the British . However, on October 23, 1805, it was shipwrecked during a storm .
