Ainārs Ozoliņš (born January 2, 1969 in Madona ) is an officer in the Latvian armed forces with the rank of brigadier general . From 2016 to 2019 he was the commander of the Latvian National Guard ( Latvian Zemessardze ).

Life

The current general was born in Madona in 1969 in what was then the Latvian SSR .

Military career

As part of the regaining of state independence in Latvia, Ainārs Ozoliņš joined the armed forces in his home country, which were being rebuilt in 1992. In the following years he served there as an officer in the infantry force and attended various further training measures in order to qualify for higher tasks. In 2006 he moved to the headquarters of the armed forces and from 2009 represented them at the NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE).

In 2013, Ozoliņš was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff of the Latvian Armed Forces and promoted to Brigadier General. On August 26, 2016, he took command of the Latvian National Guard from Leonīds Kalniņš . He kept this until May 30, 2019 when he was replaced by Egils Leščinskis .
