Lake Ajmonecat is a small and circular lake with a diameter of 255 m on Deception Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It was formed by volcanic activity between 1967 and 1969 and is located 250 m northeast of Stancomb Cove .
The Comitato per i nomi geografici antartici ( German- Italian committee for Antarctic geographical names ) named him after the frigate captain Giovanni Ajmone Cat (1934-2007), who undertook two Antarctic expeditions (1969-1971 and 1973-1974) with his felucca San Giuseppe II in 1969 after the volcanic eruption also visited Deception Island.
