Akarnan
Akarnan ( ancient Greek Ἀκαρνάν Akarnán ) is a hero of Greek mythology .
He was the son of Alkmaion and Kallirrhoë , and the brother of Amphoterus . His father was murdered by King Phegeus when he was very young. Kallirrhoë then prayed to Zeus that he would let their sons grow faster so that they could take revenge on their father's murderer. The prayer was answered and together with his brother Akarnan killed Phegeus, his wife and two sons. The inhabitants of Psophis , where the sons were killed, pursued the murderers as far as Tegea . There the murderers were welcomed and saved in a friendly manner. At the request of Acheloos they carried the necklace and the robe from Harmonia to Delphi . From there they went to Epirus , where Akarnan founded the state of Akarnania and became the tribal father of the Akarnanians.
