Julius Adolf Bernhard

Julius Adolf Bernhard (born November 21, 1841 in Zehmen near Leipzig ; † 1924 in Dresden - Loschwitz ) was a German high school teacher and classical philologist .

Life

Julius Adolf Bernhard, son of a Protestant pastor, attended the Nicolaischule in Leipzig from 1856 and studied philology at the University of Leipzig from 1862 under Georg Curtius , Anton Westermann , Reinhold Klotz , Hermann Brockhaus and Friedrich Zarncke . In 1866 he received his doctorate and passed the teaching examination. He then worked as a trial teacher at the Nicolaischule in Leipzig and from 1867 to 1908 at the grammar school in Bautzen . From 1885 until his retirement in 1908 he was rector of the Vitzthum grammar school in Dresden. In 1884 he was awarded the title of professor.

In addition to his teaching activities, he was also active in research and ancient studies and articles in the detailed lexicon of Greek and Roman mythology . He also published on the history of the Vitzthum grammar school.
