Akeene Brown , often also Akeem Browne (born December 28, 1992 ), is a Barbadian football player in the position of a defender who has been playing for the Barbadian first division UWI Blackbirds FC , the football team of the UWI Blackbirds , the university's own sports department , since the 2018/19 season on the Cave Hill campus of the University of the West Indies .

Club career

Breakthrough at Barbados Defense Force SC

Akeene Brown was born on December 28, 1992. From 2009 at the latest, he was a member of the Barbados Defense Force SC , the football team of the Barbados Defense Force Sports Program of the Barbados Defense Force . With the team from the village of Paragon in Parish Christ Church , he finished in the final ranking of the 2009 game with one point behind Master Brittons Hill , but with a far better goal difference, the second place in the table. Throughout the season, Brown scored two goals for his team. In the Barbados FA Cup of 2009 he made it with the team to the quarter-finals and was defeated in this just 1: 2 to the eventual finalists Paradise SC . After playing six league games in 2010 , his team had only one win and one draw, placing the team in last place in the table. The leadership then drew consequences and took the team out of the game of the highest Barbadian soccer league on March 15, 2010; the remaining games were rated 0: 3. Brown was the first player on his team to score that year; in the opening game, a 1-1 away draw against Ellerton FC , he scored the goal to 1-0 lead in minute 45. In the Barbados FA Cup 2010 , the team ended in the first main round against Belfield SC (3: 4 defeat on penalties).

After relegation to Division 1 , the second highest division in the country, the team immediately won first place in the table and at the end of the season rose again to the Premier League together with the runner-up, Dayrells Road. In the Barbados FA Cup 2011 Brown was eliminated with the Barbados Defense Force SC this time in the quarter-finals against the first division club Paradise SC. Already in the first season after promotion, the team played for the title and ended the 2012 game year two points behind champions Weymouth Wales in third place, tied with Brittons Hill , the runner-up. But things went even better in the Barbados FA Cup 2012 , in which the team around the 1.82 m tall defensive man faced Brittons Hill in the final and won after a 4-3 win in extra time.

Barbadian series champion

In the following game year 2013 , Brown and his team were superior champions - 13 wins, four draws and one defeat. Brittons Hill, the closest pursuer, was eight points behind the Barbados Defense Force. The team was also able to defend the title in 2014 and 2015 ; in the last year, as they were tied with Rendezvous FC , they only became Barbadian football champions because of the better goal difference. In the Barbados FA Cup 2014 , the team made it to the final and lost in this just 0: 1 to the Barbadian record champions Weymouth Wales. At the Barbados FA Cup 2015 that followed a year later , both teams of the Barbados Defense Force were successful in the race. While the club's second team, which was competing as BDF , was only barely eliminated in the quarterfinals against Weymouth Wales, the first team made it to the final and defeated Rendevouz FC 2-1. After three championship titles in a row, the defensive player played his eighth season in the men's team in 2016 . By the end of the game year, the team around Brown was involved in the fight for the championship title. Despite a few big wins, it wasn't enough to win another title in the end; the UWI Blackbirds FC , the football team of the UWI Blackbirds , the university's sports department of the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies had at the end of one-point lead. Particularly noteworthy are the 21-0 and 14-0 wins by UWI in the penultimate and final round of the championship.

Via Paradise to UWI Blackbirds FC

After eight years in the service of the Barbados Defense Force, Brown joined league rivals Paradise SC from Dover in Parish Christ Church in the summer of 2016 and made his first appearance for the team in the 2017 game year . In the four-time Barbadian champion, who won the Barbadian FA Cup just as often, but was increasingly found in the middle of the table in recent years, he continued to play on the defensive and took fourth place with the team at the end of the season. Paradise fared more successful in the Barbados FA Cup 2017 , when the club made it to the final and only lost 1-0 to Weymouth Wales in extra time. The team delivered a similar performance in the following game year 2018 . In a, after a league reform, divided into two groups (zones) Paradise finished after 16 league games in second place behind Weymouth Wales in zone A, whereby the team qualified for the game for 3rd place. In this, Brown and his team did not manage to defeat UWI Blackbirds FC, the runner-up in Zone 2, and lost the game 2: 3. As in the previous year, Paradise SC made it into the final of the FA Cup in 2018 ; with a 2-1 win over his former team Brown won the trophy with his team.

After another league reform, the game operations of the following season were split between 2018 and 2019 and played as the Barbados Premier League 2018/19 . Only two years after his last move there was another transfer for Brown, whereupon he joined the UWI Blackbirds FC, which was promoted to the top Barbadian football league in 2014. With this, Brown ranks under coach Roland Butcher currently (as of March 11, 2019) in second place in zone 2 shortly before the end of the season and has already qualified for the game for third place.

National team career

During his successful time with the Barbados Defense Force, Brown made it to the senior national team in his home country in 2014 . Under coach Collin Forde , he made his debut on March 2, 2014 in a 2-0 defeat in a friendly against Jamaica , when he was on the defensive for the full 90 minutes. Six months later, Forde used him as a regular player during qualifying for the 2014 Caribbean Championship . After appearances in the three games of the group stage, he rose to the second group stage with Barbados, which finished second in Group 3. In this, Brown was used in two of the three games and ended Group 8 with his home country in fourth and last place in the group, which means that the team did not qualify for the final round that will take place in November 2014 . Forde then took action and resigned as a coach in November 2014, whereupon Marcos Falopa took over the coaching post as well as that of the technical director and a few months later put Brown back as a regular in the national team. From February to March 2015 he played as a left-back in three friendly international matches.

The experienced Brazilian then used him in the two games of the first CONCACAF qualifying round for the 2018 World Cup against the US Virgin Islands in March 2015 . After an unlucky 1-0 defeat in the first leg, Barbados won the second leg 4-0. After playing in a friendly against the national soccer team of St. Kitts and Nevis in May 2015, Brown played the second CONCACAF qualifying round for the 2018 World Cup with his home country . After the 2: 0 win in the first leg against Aruba in 57 minutes with the red card was sent off and was therefore not entitled to play in the next leg, he parted with Barbados early in the qualifier after having Hadan Holligan a actually yellow-banned Barbadian player was used and the game, which actually ended in a 1-0 victory for the Barbadians, was rated 3-0 for Aruba. After the departure of the Barbadians, which was largely described as "embarrassing" by the media, the Brazilian coach was presented with immediate effect from his duties and the local coach Collin Harewood as the new national coach of Barbados.

Under Harewood, however, Brown found it difficult to play in the Barbadians' regular team, initially sat on the substitute bench without being used before he was completely removed from the squad. It was not until March 10, 2017, almost two years after his last international match, that Brown came back to work under the Swiss - Somali coach Ahmed Mohamed , who had just taken over as coach. After a 2-0 defeat in a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago , he and his home country won 2-1 in a friendly international match against Martinique 17 days later . This was at the same time so far (as of March 2019) Brown's last recorded international match.
