The Barbados Defense Force ( German Defense Forces of Barbados ) are the armed forces of Barbados . The headquarters are located in St. Ann's Fort in The Garrison, Saint Michael .

The armed forces were founded on August 15, 1979 as a completely separate military unit alongside the Royal Barbados Police Force , which had existed since 1835 .

The formal Commander in Chief of the Barbados Armed Forces is Queen Elizabeth II , represented by the Governor General . The Barbados Defense Force reports directly to the Prime Minister's Office. The defense budget is the equivalent of US $ 24,600,000 , which corresponds to 0.8% of the national budget.

The Barbados Coast Guard has since 2007/8 over three patrol boats of the type Damen Stan 4207 , the HMBS Leonard C. Banfield , the HMBS Rudyard Lewis and HMBS Trident .
