The Arktisk Kommando ( Arctic Command ) is part of the Danish armed forces and is subordinate to the joint defense command . In peacetime, the task of the Arktisk Kommando is to secure the sovereignty of the Imperial Community by guarding Greenland , the Faroe Islands and the surrounding waters. The command is also responsible for fisheries control , maritime services, patient transport and other social tasks. In the negotiations on the defense agreement from 2010 to 2014, it was decided to use the Færøernes Command and the Grønlands Commandto be disbanded in favor of the joint Arktisk Command. Since October 31, 2012, it has acted as a coordinating link between the armed forces and the local authorities. The current major general of the command is Kim Jesper Jørgensen of the Royal Danish Air Force .
structure
The Arktisk Command has one base in Nuuk and one in Tórshavn . The one in Nuuk is the headquarters with 36 civilians and military personnel. In Tórshavn is the connecting element of the command, the "Forbindelseselement Færøerne" (FEF). It is located in the same building as Tórshavn Radio and Tilbúgvingarstovnur Føroya. There are a total of four soldiers and two civilians here.
Among other things, the command is the Sirius sled patrol.
