Dominica Armed Forces

Dominica has no armed forces since 1981 . The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force ( police ) can be used for defense tasks.

Abolition of the military

The country gained independence from Great Britain on November 3rd, 1978 . There has been no standing army on Dominica since the military tried to take power with a coup in 1981 . However, there is a special service unit . The defense of Dominica has been organized under the RSS (Regional Security System) since 1996. The protecting powers are the United States and Canada . In the event of a voltage, the Dominica Police Force should also serve as the military.
