The armed forces of Saint Kitts and Nevis are known as the Royal Saint Kitts and Nevis Defense Force (SKNDF). They have a police character and are subordinate to the Minister of National Security. They are supported by the Royal Saint Kitts and Nevis Police Force in the event of a crisis .

The Royal Saint Kitts and Nevis Defense Forces consist of
- an infantry unit ( the St. Kitts Nevis Regiment ) and
- the Coast Guard ( the St. Kitts Nevis Coast Guard ).
The additional reserve corps of the SKNDF consists of the
- 'B' Company
- Coast Guard reserve
- St. Kitts and Nevis Defense Force Band
- St. Kitts and Nevis Defense Force Cadet Corps
history
The Royal Saint Kitts and Nevis Defense Force was established as early as 1896 but was not converted into a regular military unit until 1967. In 1980 the active part of the SKNDF was dissolved, but reactivated under Denzil Douglas in 1996. The current structure dates from 1997.
