Akemi Kuniyoshi-Kuhn

Akemi Kuniyoshi-Kuhn (* 1953 in Okinawa ) is a Japanese pianist and composer of avant-garde jazz and new improvisation music .

Live and act

Akemi Kuniyoshi received a classical education and won the Young Musician of the Year competition in Okinawa in 1967 ; from 1973 she studied at the Shobi Academy in Tokyo and during this time she performed in nightclubs and sushi restaurants as a pianist and singer. a. with Elton John songs.
In 1978 she moved to England , where she has since worked as a soloist and in various formations and recorded several albums for Leo Records . She had a trio with Marcio Mattos and Eddie Prévost , toured with Sylvia Hallett , Marj McDaid and Tony Wren in Three Fish and a Bicycle and played in the improvisation quintet Coherents with Chris Green and Gerry Gold. As a soloist she has appeared mainly in Great Britain and Switzerland, a. a. in Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Purcell Room in London and on some radio broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 .

In the 2000s she worked with the Akemi Kuniyoshi Group , which includes multi-instrumentalist Paul Moss , trumpeter Gerry Gold and Chilean percussionist Lukax Santana.
