Aketi , called Aketi Port-Chaltin until 1966 (after Louis Napoléon Chaltin ), is a city in the province of Bas-Uele in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . It has a good 150,000 inhabitants, who mainly speak Lingála .
From the 1930s, the northeast of the country was opened up with the Congolese branch line ( Vicicongo ) from Aketi , as the Itimbri is no longer navigable further upstream due to the waterfalls. The main workshops and the operational center of these railway lines are still in Aketi today. After the Second World War, the line was extended to Bumba on the Congo .
