Bumba is the largest city in the Mongala province in the north of the central African state of the Democratic Republic of the Congo .
location
The city is located on the right bank of the Congo River, just below the confluence of the Itimbiri River, about 600 km upstream from Mbandaka . The closest city of almost the same size is Lisala , 100 km to the west. The city of Kisangani ( Tshopo Province ) is another 400 km upstream (towards east-southeast). The geographical coordinates of Bumba are 2.2 ° north and 22.5 ° east, the altitude around 400 meters.
Residents
According to an estimate, Bumba has 103,328 inhabitants in 2010 (census: 1984 51,197 inhabitants; 2005 95,514 inhabitants) . In the first democratic elections in October 2006 , there were minor unrest in the region between supporters of the two presidential candidates.

The city is a transshipment point between river shipping and the narrow-gauge railway towards Aketi - Isiro - Mungbere and to the Uelle (river). The operation of the narrow-gauge railway was stopped around 2003.

Bumba is the seat of the Lolo diocese .
