history
As part of the new state constitution of 2005, the administrative structure of the Democratic Republic of the Congo was to be fundamentally changed and the state was to be decentralized. The plan was to increase the number of provinces from eleven to 26 and give them greater political influence.
The province Orientale , to which Tshopo belonged until then, was to be dissolved and replaced by four new provinces, including Tshopo. However, the administrative reform was postponed several times and canceled in 2011, but finally implemented in 2015 and thus elevated Tshopo to a province.
