Tshuapa is a province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . The population of the province was 1,600,000 in 2015, the capital is Boende (33,765 inhabitants 2010).

geography

Tshuapa is located in the northern center of the country. It is bordered to the north by Mongala Province , to the east by Tshopo , to the south by Sankuru and Kasaï , to the southwest by Mai-Ndombe and to the northwest by Équateur .

history

Since 1966 Tshuapa was a district of the province of Equateur . According to the administrative reform announced in 2005 and canceled in 2011, Equateur should be divided into five new provinces, including Tshuapa. The administrative reform was postponed several times and canceled in 2011, but finally implemented in 2015 and thus elevated Tshuapa to a province.

Tshuapa consists of six territories, all of which are named after their respective main towns:

  • Bokungo
  • Djolu
  • Ikela
  • Monkoto
