Akiva Orr
Akiva "Aki" Orr (* 1931 in Berlin as Karl Sebastian Sonnenberg ; † February 9, 2013 in Tnuvot) was an Israeli writer and political activist. He was a critic of Zionism and supported a one-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict . Orr has been campaigning for direct democracy since 1968 .
Life
Orr was born into a Jewish family in Berlin. His parents left Germany in 1934 after the National Socialists came to power and went to Palestine , which was then a British mandate. It was only here that he Hebrew his name to Akiva Orr.
In 1961 he published together with Moshe Machover the writing Shalom, Shalom ve'ein Shalom ("Peace, Peace and Yet No Peace"), in which he criticized the war against Egypt and the government under David Ben Gurion . In 1962 he left the Communist Party of Israel and founded the left-wing socialist organization Matzpen .
