Akiwa Gowrin
Akiwa Gowrin ( Hebrew עקיבא גוברין; * August 12, 1902 in Podolia ; † June 26, 1980 ) was an Israeli politician who served as a deputy to the Mapai Minister of Tourism from December 22, 1964 to January 12, 1966.
Life
He was one of the founders of the Hechalutz movement in Ukraine. As part of the Aliyah , he immigrated to Palestine in 1922. In 1949 he became member of the Knesset of Mapai and was in the years 1951, 1955, re-elected in 1959 and 1961st He became a minister with no portfolio on December 1, 1963 , and when Levi Eshkol formed a government in December 1964, he became Israel's first tourism minister. He was re-elected in the 1965 elections, but left the cabinet.
