The Akizuki class ( Japanese あ き づ き 型 護衛艦 Akizuki-gata goeikan ) was a class of two destroyers of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Forces (JMSDF). She is the two class with that name in a Japanese Navy. Its name predecessor was a destroyer class from 1941 .

Hull and drive

The hull of an Akizuki- class destroyer was 118 meters long, 12 meters wide and had a draft of 4.0 meters with a maximum displacement of 2,936 tons . It was driven by two geared turbines with four steam boilers , with which a total output of 45,000 PS (33,097 kW ) was achieved. The power was delivered to two shafts with one screw each . The top speed was 32 knots (59 km / h ).

Armament

The artillery armament consisted of three 5-inch (127-mm) Mk.16 guns in single turrets and four 3-inch (76 mm) Mk. 22 guns in double mounts. The anti-submarine equipment consisted of a pitcher for RUR-4 anti-submarine missiles, two hedgehog -Werfer, two outlet rails for depth charges and six anti-submarine torpedo Mk.2 in Drilling torpedo tubes.
