Around 1340 BC The kingdom of Qatna, which was previously subordinate to the Egyptian governor Biruaza , was destroyed by the Hittites . Akizzi was the son of Taku and had a brother named Takuwa . He was of Mittan descent.
In the Amarna archive four letters from Akizzi to have Amenhotep III. receive. It was during this period that the Aitakama of Kadesh rebelled , the Aziru of Amurru and the first campaign of the Hittite king Šuppiluliuma I in northern Syria. The letters of the kings of Nuḫašše , Tunip and Ribaddi of Byblos all ask for help against Aziru. Akizzi wrote another letter (EA 59) to Akhenaten without getting the requested help.
