List of domestic dogs

Aksaray Malaklisi Dog , also Türk Mastifi (Turkish Mastiff), is a by the Turkish canine governing body Köpek Irkları ve Köpek Bilimleri Federasyonu (KIF) in the FCI recognized dog breed belonging to the shepherd dogs counts. It is mainly found in Aksaray and the province of the same name . A breed standard of the kind required for the breed to be recognized by the FCI does not yet exist, but is in progress.

Archaeological finds in the area show that dogs of this type have been used since ancient times. The dog breed (or its forerunners) was historically used as a war dog , currently it is used as a guard dog and herd guard dog . Typical and eponymous for the breed are the drooping lower lips ( malak ). The head and body are massive, and the skin and fur are quite thin.

In a study of malaklı-type dogs, their behavior is compared to that of the kangal and they are described as more aggressive than the kangal towards humans and other dogs. Like the Kangal, the Malaklı belongs to the group of Turkish Shepherd Dogs with a Black Mask ( Karabaş , German Schwarzkopf). Its body is more massive than that of the Kangal, the tail less curved, the hair shorter. Above all, however, one can distinguish it from the Kangal by its massive head and neck shape as well as the hanging lips. In this study, a height at the withers of 72.98 ± 0.49 cm was found for the bitches examined and 78.36 ± 0.31 cm for the males. Males weighed on average 62.29 ± 0.68 kg, bitches 53.20 ± 1.01 kg. The Malaklı is therefore larger and heavier than the other Turkish shepherd dog breeds Kangal, Kars dog and Akbaş .
