Alê Abreu (born March 6, 1971 in São Paulo , Brazil ) is a Brazilian film director and screenwriter.

Life

In 1993 Alê Abreu released his debut short film Sírius at the Anima Mundi film festival. It was the only cartoon that year. The film won the “Best Film” category at the Festival de Cine para Niños y Jovenes and was shown at the São Paulo International Film Festival and the Hiroshima Kokusai Animation Festival . In 1998, Espantalho, his second short animated film, followed. He won third place at Anima Mundi and the Director's Award (animation) at the Brazilian Film Festival of Miami. He was also nominated in the cartoon category at the first Grande Prêmio Cinema Brasil . His debut feature film followed in 2007 with Garoto Cósmico . The boy and the world appeared in 2013 . The film premiered at the Ottawa International Animation Festival . For this film he received the film award for children's rights of the Independent FilmFest Osnabrück and at the 2016 Academy Awards, his first Oscar nomination in the category Best Animated Feature Film .
