The boy and the world (original title: O Menino eo Mundo ) is a Brazilian animated film without dialogue by Alê Abreu . The film premiered at the Ottawa International Animation Festival on September 20, 2013 and opened in German cinemas on December 17, 2015. It also received a nomination for best animated feature film for the 2016 Academy Awards .

When the father of a bright little boy moves to town to find work, he is left alone. He travels after him longingly and experiences the transition from rural life to an industrial city. Life there is ruled by a military regime, so he has to muster all his courage to face the dangers and find his father.

criticism

The film service described the film as a “complex fable for both adults and children, in which sounds and images form an almost magical symbiosis”. The “masterful animation film” lives “from the splendid play with shapes, colors and movements, whereby the staging uses the possibilities of the animated film between reality, present and memory, abstraction and details”, “to mediate between the joy of looking and the socially critical aspects ".
