al-Muzanī
Isma'il ibn Yahya al-Muzanī (born 791 or 792; died 878 ) was an Islamic law scholar born and living in Egypt . He was a student of Imam al-Shafidi (767-820) during his stay in Egypt. His role as an independent thinker was highlighted.
Live and act
Al-Muzanī was an important sponsor of al-Shāfidī's school of law and wrote a Muchtasar ( al-muḫtaṣar ) which contained a summary of the legal doctrine of this school. In some questions, however, his views differed from those of the al-Shāfidīs , so that one even spoke of al-Muzanī's own legal school ( maḏhab ). Al-Muzanī's admiration for al-Shāfidīs Risāla is expressed in one of his sayings:
"I have been looking at al-Shāfidīs Risāla for fifty years, and I do not remember a single time when I did not take advantage of it."
His nephew was the famous Imam at-Tahāwī (853-933).
