al-Taawoun FC ( Arabic نادي التعاون, DMG Nādī t-Taʿāwun ) is a Buraida- based football club that plays in the Saudi Professional League , the top division of Saudi Arabia . The club plays its home games at the King Abdullah Sport City Stadium in Buraida and shares this stadium with city rivals al-Raed .
history
al-Taawon was founded in 1956 by Saleh al-Wabili under the name al-Shabab . Four years after the club was founded, they were officially registered as a professional club in 1960. Under the leadership of Zayed al-Omrani as president, the club established itself in 1995 for the first time in its history in the top division before relegating again the next season. Two years later, al-Taawon again succeeded in promotion to the Saudi Professional League, this time even as the champion of the second division. The club then rose again after a year. In the 2009/10 season, al-Taawon made it to the Saudi Professional League for the first time in over a decade, finishing second in the second division. On May 29, 2016, al-Taawon qualified for the AFC Champions League for the first time and finished fourth in the league in the 2015/16 season . On May 2, 2019, al-Taawon won the King Cup, his first national title, after beating Ittihad FC 2-1 in the final
