Al Bates

Al Bates ( Alfred Hilborn Bates ; born April 24, 1905 in Philadelphia , † June 9, 1999 ibid) was an American long jumper .

In 1928 he qualified as US runner-up for the Olympic Games in Amsterdam . There he won the bronze medal with 7.40 m behind his compatriot Ed Hamm (7.73 m) and the Haitian Silvio Cator (7.58 m).

In 1930 and 1931 he was US champion. He set his personal best of 7.58 m on May 25, 1928 in Cambridge .
