The Al Hamra Tower ( Arabic برج الحمراء, DMG Burǧ al-Ḥamrāʾ ) is a skyscraper in Kuwait City , the capital of Kuwait .
Construction of the 77-story building began in 2005 and was carried out by Turner Construction . The building's final height of 413 meters was reached on July 15, 2010, making the tower one of the tallest buildings in the world . At the same time, it has replaced the 371-meter-high Liberation television tower as the tallest structure in Kuwait. It has also surpassed the Arraya Tower (300 meters) as the highest skyscraper in the country. The construction work was completed in autumn 2011 - later than originally planned. At the start of construction, it was still assumed that the building would be ready for occupancy by the end of 2010. However, this date could not be kept, even if the construction work went without major incidents.
The 77 floors of the building offer 195,000 square meters of floor space and are mainly used for offices. There is also a restaurant on the upper floors from which one has a panoramic view of the city. The tower has a special sinuous shape and ends with a rising roof structure. On the south side, the building has only a few individual windows. Marble cladding was attached to the concrete facade between the windows . These parts, a little less than half a meter in size, were individually glued to the facade by the construction workers. Especially for this, the workers had to be lifted up in baskets that were hung from cranes. The structure of the Al Hamra Tower consists entirely of reinforced concrete . On the other three sides of the facade, it consists of glass panes and aluminum .
The American architecture firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill was responsible for the design . The company Al Hamra Real Estates commissioned the construction of the building in order to create more modern office space in Kuwait City and thus make the city more attractive for foreign companies.
