Alaa Thabet ( Arabic علاء ثابت, DMG ʿAlāʾ Ṯābit ; * December 12, 1965 in Cairo ) is an Egyptian journalist and editor-in-chief of the newspaper al-Ahram as well as a member of the board of directors of the al-Ahram Foundation.

academic career

In 1992 he graduated from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University . In 2006 he received the diploma for advanced studies in journalism and editorial management in the USA .

Career

After graduating in 1988, he worked as a journalist for the newspaper Al-Nour. In 1989 he was a journalist for the Al-Watan newspaper in Cairo. In 1990 he was a journalist for the Cairo office of the Gulf newspaper of Kuwait and Al-Qabas in 1991. From 1994 he worked for the newspaper Al-Ahram Evening, from 2007 as deputy editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram Evening. From April 2011 to August 2012, and between June 28, 2014 and May 31, 2017, he was editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram Evening.

National press agency

On April 11, 2017, he was elected a member of the National Press Agency, but resigned on May 31, 2017.

Publications

He has published several publications, including the book Higher Education in Egypt, in which he analyzed the politics of higher education in Egypt.

In addition, he wrote several books published by the Center for Political and Strategic Studies in al-Ahram, including the book Ministry of Higher Education , which is part of a series examining the institutional and functional development of Egyptian ministries. The aim of this series is to open a broad dialogue between the forces of society in order to establish a correct mechanism for the formulation of public policy in Egypt.

Lectures

Thabet gave several lectures at a number of Egyptian and Arab universities, including a lecture organized by the King of Saudi Arabia entitled The Future of the Paper Press in the Arab World at the Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies in Saudi Arabia on October 22, 2018, where he stressed that all modern media resources do not lead to the resources becoming extinct.
