Bishop Tawadros II (also Theodor , Coptic Ⲡⲁⲡⲁ Ⲁⲃⲃⲁ Ⲑⲉ ό ⲇⲱⲣⲟⲥ , Arabic البابا تواضروس الثاني, DMG al-Bābā Tawāḍurūs aṯ-Ṯānī , Egyptian-Arabic تواضروس التانى بابا; * as Waǧīh Ṣubḥī Bāqī Sulaymān on November 4, 1952 in Mansura , Egypt ) has been head of the Coptic Church since 2012 as Coptic Patriarch of Alexandria and Pope of the See of St. Mark .
Life
Wagih Sobhi Baki Solayman's father was a landscape architect. At the age of five, the family moved to Sohag , where the father was employed, and three years later to Damanhur , where the boy also attended a Coptic school. His devout Coptic family also included two sisters. He also attended Sunday school . He later studied pharmacy at Alexandria University and in England, and after graduating in 1975, he became the director of a state-owned pharmaceutical company based in Damanhur. In 1981 he began theological studies. In 1986 he entered the Deir Anba Bischoi desert monastery in the Sketian desert . In 1988 he took the perpetual vows and was ordained a monk ; a year later he was ordained a priest .

In 1997 the Synod was elected Bishop General (Auxiliary Bishop) in Damanhur, al-Buhaira Governorate in the Nile Delta . The episcopal ordination took place by Pope Schenuda III. He was mainly known for his youth work.
After Schenuda's death on March 17, 2012, he was a member of the staff of the interim church leader Pachomios.
Pope
On November 4, 2012, he was voted the 118th head of the Coptic Orthodox Church. The solemn installation as Tawadros II took place on November 18, 2012 during a mass in Cairo's St. Mark's Cathedral , which is the seat of the Coptic Pope next to St. Mark's Cathedral in Alexandria .
From December 22nd to 24th, 2013 Tawadros II visited Germany. In addition to Berlin and Frankfurt am Main, the Coptic monastery Kröffelbach in Waldsolms and the Syrian Orthodox monastery St. Jakob von Sarug in Warburg were also among his stops. On this trip he also inaugurated the Coptic Orthodox Brenkhausen Monastery in Höxter . On May 12, 2019, Tawadros II inaugurated the so-called Bunkerkirche Sankt Sacrament (Düsseldorf) as a Coptic church, which was handed over to the Coptic community by Rainer Maria Woelki in 2015 .

Tawadros II is in favor of a separation of state and religion in Egypt.
