The Alabama State Route 48 (abbreviated AL 48 ) is a state highway in the US state of Alabama , which runs east-west direction.

The State Route begins on Alabama State Routes 9 and 49 in Lineville and ends south of Bowdon on the Georgia border . At the border it becomes Georgia State Routes 5 and 100 . The two-lane road serves as a connection between Lineville and US Highway 431 in Wedowee , an important north-south connection in eastern Alabama. West of Wedowee, the State Route crosses Lake Wedowee .

history

When the number 48 was assigned in 1940, the AL 48 led from Pell City via Talladega , Ashland , Lineville, Wedowee to Omaha . After 17 years, the route of the highway was revised in 1957. The route between Pell City and Talladega has been added to Alabama State Route 34 . The section between Talladega and Ashland has been part of Alabama State Route 77 since then . Furthermore, the course was changed west of Wedowee, after which it ends today on the border with Georgia.
