Alabonia geoffrella is a butterfly from the family of oecophoridae (Oecophoridae).
features
The wingspan is between 17 and 21 millimeters. Their forewings have a distinctive pattern of red-brown, white and metallic blue. The large dark labial palps are also remarkable .
Occurrence
The species occurs in Central Europe and on the British Isles (Great Britain and Ireland). In the south it occurs as far as Italy and the northern Balkans (Croatia, Romania). The species is absent in Scandinavia and the Iberian Peninsula .
Way of life
The typical habitat of the moths is formed by deciduous forests, hedges and swamp areas. The diurnal butterflies fly in the spring months of May and June. The male moths show a characteristic flight behavior. They perform ascents and descents. The caterpillars develop under the bark of dead trees.
