Aladár Pácz

Aladár PACZ (* 11. January 1882 in Csokas ; † 1938 ) was a Hungarian Metallurg and discovery of a modification method to aluminum - silicon - alloys by the addition of alkali metal to refine.

The rights to this process were acquired by what was then Metallgesellschaft AG in Frankfurt am Main, which introduced the protected umbrella name Silumin for the refined alloys in the eutectic and near-eutectic range (7 to 13.6% silicon eutecticals) . The refinement was initially only carried out with metallic sodium , which is not harmless to handle because it causes a violent pyrogenic reaction when it comes into contact with moisture. It was discovered, however, that it is also possible to supply the refining sodium from salt mixtures to the melt in situ and this even by means of the burnout of the sodium compensating means and methods due to the time and temperature of the melt. Since around 1980, the strontium mentioned by Aladár Pácz in his patent specification has been widely used in the form of a master alloy. Compared to sodium, it is less susceptible to oxidation in the melt, so its refining effect is more lasting.
