Alain Pecker (born March 30, 1949 ) is a French civil engineer for geotechnics (soil dynamics).

Pecker studied from 1969 at the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées and 1972/73 at the University of California, Berkeley with a master’s degree. In 1973/74 he worked in the laboratory for solid mechanics at the École Polytechnique and from 1974 to 1981 in the Mecasol engineering office. From 1976 to 1988 he was Maître de Conference at the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées. From 1988 to 1996 he was adjunct professor for soil mechanics and from 2002 he was professor. Since 2000 he has also been a professor at the Graduate School for Earthquake Engineering in Pavia. From 2003 to 2006 he was also Research Director of the CNRS at the Laboratory for Soil Mechanics at the École Polytechnique.

In 1981 he founded the company Géodynamique et Structure (especially earthquake engineering), where he was manager and from 1993 general director. In 2015 he left the office and then worked as a self-employed consulting engineer.

His construction projects include (geotechnical advice, often with regard to earthquake security) the second Severn Bridge, Rio-Andirrio Bridge , the Ekofisk offshore platform, La Hague reprocessing plant, Caramany and Derdeur dams (Algeria), Koeberg nuclear power plant (South Africa), Darkhovin nuclear power plant (Iran ), Panama Canal Bridge (Atlantic Bride), the subway in Athens, the Chiloe Bridge in Chile and the Vasco da Gama Bridge . He was a member of the Eurocode 8 committee (earthquakes) and was head of the French committee for earthquake standardization.

He has been a member of the Académie des technologies since 2000.

In 2016 he received the Albert Caquot Prize . He is an honorary member of the French Society for Earthquake Engineering.
