The Alaköl ( Kyrgyz Алакөл ; Russian Ала-Куль Ala-Kul ) is a mountain lake in Terskej-Alatau in the east of Kyrgyzstan ( Central Asia ).
Alaköl is located in the Issykköl region . It is located 25 km south-southeast of the city of Karakol at an altitude of 3532 m . At its northwestern end, the lake flows over the Kurgaktor , a right tributary of the Karakol . Thus the lake is in the catchment area of the Issyk Kul . The lake has a length of 2.3 km. Its area is 126 hectares. The lake is usually covered with ice between October and May.
The lake was discovered by the Russian Putimtsoff in 1811. Thirty years later, Alexander von Schrenk explored the lake and its surroundings.
