Alakkat S. Unnikrishnan

Alakkat P. Unnikrishnan is an Indian climate scientists and oceanographers .

Life

Unnikrishnan studied oceanography and environmental sciences at the Cochin University of Science and Technology in Kochi (M.Sc. 1978) and the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi (M.Phil 1980) and received his doctorate in 1985 from the Université de Bretagne Occidentale in Brest . From 1985 onwards he worked as a scientist (most recently as chief scientist ) in the Department of Physical Oceanography at the National Institute of Oceanography in Goa until he retired in 2015.

In his research, Unnikrishnan dealt mainly with the modeling of tides , storm surges , and the relationship between climate change and sea ​​level rise . He is one of the lead authors of the chapter on sea level changes of the Fourth and Fifth Assessment Reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
