Alan Erskine-Murray, 14th Lord Elibank

Alan D'Ardis Erskine-Murray, 14th Lord Elibank ( December 31, 1923 - November 30, 2017 ) was a British peer and politician of the Conservative Party .

life and career

Erskine-Murray was born on December 31, 1923 to Robert Alan Erskine-Murray (1874-1939) and Eileen Mary MacManus († 1970).

He attended Bedford School . He had three younger siblings, one of whom died after just a day.

From 1942 to 1947 he worked for the Royal Engineers . In 1949 he graduated from Peterhouse College with a Bachelor of Arts . He was admitted to the Middle Temple Bar in 1949 as a barrister . He graduated from Peterhouse College with a Masters of Arts in 1953 .

He worked for Shell International Petroleum from 1955 to 1980 .

From 1981 to 1986 he served as personal adviser ( personal consultant ) at Deminex UK Oil and Gas active.

Membership in the House of Lords

Erskine-Murray inherited the title and the then associated seat in the House of Lords in 1973 after the death of his cousin James Alastair Frederick Campbell Erskine-Murray, 13th Lord Elibank . He gave his inaugural address on February 23, 1977.

In the 1980s he spoke on the Falkland Islands , union influence and South Africa . He spoke out about the Gulf War , the Council of Europe and tourism in the 1990s . He last spoke there on October 11, 1999. He lost his seat through the House of Lords Act 1999 .

family

On September 1, 1962, he married Valerie Sylvia Dennis († 1997), the daughter of Herbert William Dennis.
