Alan Paul (born November 23, 1949 in Newark , New Jersey ) is an American singer, composer and arranger and is known as a member of the vocal group The Manhattan Transfer .

Life and work

Alan Paul grew up in a musical family. At the age of nine he won a state singing competition with over 500 participants. Through the win he came in contact with Charlie Lowe , from whom he took singing lessons. As a child he starred in the original Broadway version of Oliver! With.

After high school, Alan began studying at Kean University , graduating with a bachelor's degree in music education. After graduating, he continued to focus on his career as an entertainer. His next big role was as Teen Angel and Johnny Casino in the original Broadway version of Grease .

In 1972 he came into contact with Tim Hauser , who convinced him to become a member of the newly formed vocal group The Manhattan Transfer. With The Manhattan Transfer, he was awarded a Grammy ten times . His compositions Twilight Zone / Twilight Tone and Code Of Ethics as well as his vocal arrangements for The Boy From NYC and Rays Rockhouse have been nominated four times for a Grammy.

In addition to his involvement with The Manhattan Transfer, he built a solo career. For example, he has performed with groups such as the Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra. In 2003 he released a solo CD Another Place and Time .
