Alan Wilson (composer)

Alan Wilson (* 1947 in Nottingham ) is a British musician and composer who has become internationally known for his works on the New Spiritual Song . His German Magnificat "My soul praises the greatness of the Lord" has achieved great dissemination and popularity in Germany thanks to the 'Freiburg Choir Book'.

At the age of 17, Wilson received a scholarship to London's Royal College of Music . Another scholarship took him to the Amsterdam Conservatory .

From 1974 to 1986 he was Director of Music at Christ-the-King University Church in London. He wrote numerous works for her choir. Wilson later took on the musical direction at Queen Mary College in east London and at St Mary-le-Bow Church . He also founded his own choir, the Alan Wilson Singers.

He often gives workshops in German dioceses (for example at the Die Wolfsburg academy of the Diocese of Essen ), especially with his own, often new, work. His Magnificat has become one of his most famous works in Germany. This and many other of his works are published in the Freiburg choir book.
