Alan fitz Walter, 2nd High Steward of Scotland (also Alan son of Walter ) (* around 1150; † 1204 ) was a Scottish nobleman.

Alan was from the Stewart family . He was the eldest surviving son of Walter Fitz Alan and his wife Eschina . His father, an Anglo-Norman nobleman, had risen to Dapifer in the service of the Scottish kings and was able to acquire considerable property in Scotland through the favor of the kings. Alan inherited these properties after his death in 1177. He also took over the court office of Dapifer ( English steward ) in the service of King Wilhelm I from his father . By 1200 at the latest, he was able to acquire the Isle of Bute , which had previously been under Norwegian sovereigntyKingdom of the Isles . Presumably under Alan, the construction of Rothesay Castle began on the island.
