The Alaska Canyon is a deeply cut gorge on the northern flank of the Michigan Plateau in the Marie Byrd Land part of the Transantarctic Mountains .

The canyon was mapped on the basis of survey work by the United States Geological Survey and aerial photographs by the United States Navy between 1960 and 1963. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it after the University of Alaska , from which numerous scientists working in Antarctica came.
