The Alaska Milk Corporation premises

Alaska Milk Corporation ( AMC ) is a Filipino dairy company based in Makati City . The company also owns Alaska Aces, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) team.

In 2012, the Dutch dairy company FrieslandCampina took control (98.1%) of the company from the founding Uytengsu family.

history

Holland Milk Products Inc. (HOMPI) was founded in 1972. It was a joint venture between AMC's former parent company, General Milling Corporation (GMC), and Holland Canned Milk International BV (now FrieslandCampina). HOMPI initially produced liquid canned milk (condensed milk and condensed milk). Eventually it expanded to make powdered milk and UHT milk.

In 1994, HOMPI was spun off from GMC and incorporated as Alaska Milk Corporation (AMC) under the control of Wilfred Uytengsu, Sr. Shortly after its inception, AMC was listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) in 1995.

Wilfred Steven Uytengsu, Jr., the eldest son of Wilfred Sr., assumed the position of President and CEO in 2007. The elder Uytengsu died in April 2010 at the age of 82.

In 2007, the company acquired Nestlé Philippines' canned milk business . The takeover included the Alpine, Liberty and Krem Top brands as well as the brand license for the Carnation and Milkmaid brands from Nestlé.

In March 2012 the company had more than 1,000 employees. In 2012 FrieslandCampina acquired the majority of AMC from the Uytengsu family. On November 5, 2012, AMC was removed from PSE after FrieslandCampina completed its takeover offer for 98.1% of the shares in AMC. FrieslandCampina previously held an 8.1% stake in AMC. Wilfred Steven Uytengsu Jr. remains as President and CEO.

In 2016 the Friso brand was launched in the Philippines.
