Alastair Bruce, 5th Baron Aberdare

Alastair John Lyndhurst Bruce, 5th Baron Aberdare (born May 2, 1947 ) is a British peer and politician .

life and career

Bruce was born to Morys Bruce, 4th Baron Aberdare , and Maud Helen Sarah Dashwood.

He attended Eton College and then studied at Christ Church College of Oxford University . From 1969 to 1991 he worked at IBM . In 1991 he moved to Bruce Naughton Wade , a management consultancy, and became a partner there. Since 1999 he has been the director of ProbusBNW .

Bruce inherited the title from his father after his death in January 2005.

In July 2009 he was elected as hereditary peer in the House of Lords , as the successor to Christopher Bathurst, 3rd Viscount Bledisloe, who had recently died . There he sits as a crossbencher .

He is president of the Cynon Valley History Society . From 1994 to 2006 he was on the board of the National Botanic Garden of Wales .

Bruce has been married to Elizabeth Mary Culbert Foulkes since 1971 and has two children with her, Hector Morys Napier Bruce (* 1974) and Sarah Katherine Mary Bruce (* 1976).
