The Albert König Museum in Unterlüß is an art museum that primarily preserves the artistic legacy of the painter and graphic artist Albert König (1881–1944). The museum is now in possession of more than 220 paintings, around 1200 watercolors and several hundred prints by König through the bequest of the works and further acquisitions . The museum was named after this artist, who had his last residence in Unterlüß.

In her will, the widow of the artist Albert König decreed that the entire artistic estate in her possession and the former home with her husband's studio would become the property of the Unterlüß community. They made it a condition that an art museum be built here which is to be called the "Albert-König-Museum".

On June 19, 1987, the museum was opened and opened to the public. On January 1, 2005, the museum, which had previously been run by the municipal administration, was converted into a foundation under private law, which was given the name "Foundation Albert König Museum Unterlüß".

Several times a year, works by various artists or topics are presented in special exhibitions.

Since May 1, 2004, the permanent exhibition "Kieselguhr - The Adventure Exhibition" has been shown in an extension. The house also offers space for concerts , readings and theater performances or weddings .

Fundus

In addition to works by Albert König, the museum also has works by the artists Wilhelm Feldmann , Fritz Flebbe , Erwin Vollmer , Frido Witte , Adolf Schlawing and Günther Weißflog , all of whom were associated with the region.

Museum management

Until March 2017, the head of the museum was Klaus Homann, whose services to the common good were recognized by Federal President Joachim Gauck at the New Year's reception in Bellevue Palace on January 9, 2014 . Jörg Nehse now runs the museum on a voluntary basis. He is supported by the art historian Dietrun Otten from the Bomann Museum in Celle.
