Wilhelm Feldmann (born December 1, 1859 in Lüneburg , † October 10, 1932 in Lübeck ) was a German landscape painter , etcher and lithographer .

Life

Wilhelm Feldmann was born the son of a master locksmith in Lüneburg. Here he attended the Johanneum Lüneburg until Easter 1878 without graduating. On April 30, 1878, he was accepted into the class of antiquities at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . In 1883 he moved to the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe for an indefinite period and became a student of the landscape painter Gustav Schönleber . In 1886 he continued his education for four years in Berlin at the landscape class of the Royal Academy of the Arts . Here Eugen Bracht became his teacher. He learned the technique of etching from the graphic artist Hans Meyer . He also made lithographs .

From 1890 to 1902 he worked in Berlin as a freelance landscape painter and etcher. In 1895 he received a small gold medal at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition . From 1903 to 1911 he worked in Mölln and founded a painting school here in 1905. In 1912 or 1913 he moved to Lübeck, from where he also painted in Israelsdorf and Gothmund . He began his freelance work initially with etchings.

Recurring motifs are the Märkische Heide and the Lüneburg Heath . At the beginning of the 20th century he was one of the most famous pagan painters. In 1929, the Behnhaus in Lübeck provided him with a separate room for his works. It was probably his last exhibition. Wilhelm Feldmann was a member of the Hamburg Artists' Association from 1832 .

After the artist's death, it was largely forgotten.

Awards

Feldmann received the award diploma of the Dresden Watercolor Academy in 1887, the Menzelstiftung award in 1889 and the Berlin Academy Award in 1890 for his large etching of the Rudelsburg .

The National Gallery Berlin, the Museum Behnhaus Lübeck, the Möllner Museum, the Bomann Museum in Celle and the Albert König Museum in Unterlüß are in possession of his works.
