Albert , originally Martinsburg , is a village in the United States in the state of Texas .
history
The foundation stone for the village was laid in 1877 by Fritz Wilke , George Maenius and John Petri . They were looking for pastures for their cattle and therefore acquired the land. In 1877 a post office was opened in what was then called Martinsburg , which was in operation until 1886. 1892 drew Carl Albert Luckenbach from twenty miles away Luckenbach to Martinsburg. When he opened a new post office here, it was registered as Albert , giving the place its new name. The first school opened in Albert in 1891, and Albert's first shop opened its doors six years later. In 1900 a new school building was built, in which the future US President Lyndon Baines Johnson was taught for a year. In 1922 a dance hall was inaugurated in Albert. In 1985 the shop was closed, the town hall was used as a warehouse, and the school was used as a community house.
In March 2003, Robert L. Cave acquired the village. In 2007 the owner Bobby Cave tried to auction the 13 acre site. He asked for a minimum of 2.5 million US dollars (1.73 million euros). On November 23, 2007, the village was sold to an Italian for $ 3,000,800.
Population development
In 1925 there were 50 people in Albert, in 1964 there were four and in 1972 there were 25. In 1985, as in 1990 and 2000, 25 residents were registered for the settlement. In 2007 there were no more permanent residents here.
